Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

MY OH MY OH MY!!! Today we went to THE best Estate Sale we have ever gone to. We had very low expectations of this sale, but we went anyway because local Estate Sales are so few and far between. We knew things were going to be great when we saw a pricing chart posted with these prices listed:

orange tags = $0.10
Green tags = $0.25
Red tags = $0.50
Pink tags = $2.00
Everything else marked with prices

IT WAS SO AWESOME!!!  I suddenly realized the things I was interested were only $0.10 each. I quickly began making a pile of beautiful treasures. So without any more waiting here are my wonderful treasures.

Two wonderful magnets each $0.10 each.

I love this penguins tie! He is so cute.

Who wouldn't want an owl magnet this cute

Yes this milk glass bowl was only $0.10, and that is why this was one of the best Estate Sales we have ever been to.

A wonderfully sweet Christmas plaque for $0.25.

I mainly bought the plaque because I loved this little quote.

Owl Christmas hand towels, and I can't decide if the owl is super cute or creepy. I love it though, and I bought two of them for $0.50.

Ok sorta silly to post these scissors, but they were only $0.50 and they work great!

Two candle holders for $0.50, and later this week I will show you what I have in mind for these candle stick holders.

This chest was only $5.00, and carved into it says Daddy's tool box. So sweet.

The seller running the sale threw in this old tool since we bought the box.

NOW!!! Onto the most AMAZING finds from the sale. I found this perfectly soft blue type writer for $5.00. I snatched it up immediately so no one else would take it. The type writer is in great condition.

It even came with its original manuel.

And it just keeps getting better. These two vintage suit cases were marked $10.00 each, and I got really brave and offered them $15.00 for both. They gladly accepted the offer and were so glad that they were going to a good home. I just love these suit cases!

I don't know if these initials belonged to these owners or not, but they sure give it character.

Since this sale was run privately by the children of the husband and wife who passed away it was a very welcoming sale. The sellers were so sweet, and we got to visit with them for awhile. It was hard for them to have this sale, but they were glad that their parents treasured items were going to good people.

I do hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

Friday Gems

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

WE DID IT AGAIN!!! We all made it through another week! Now its the weekend, and lets hope we find some lovely treasures this weekend at the thrift stores or the sales. I was going to post my usual favorite treasures that I find in internet land, but my husband surprised my so wonderfully this evening that I thought i would share some pictures from that instead.

My sweet husband dropped me off at my favorite nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure. It was so lovely and relaxing, and such a kind gesture from him. Then he took me to Starbucks for Banana walnut bread, and a decaf vanilla latte. What a perfectly lovely evening!

Have a lovely Friday! And I can't wait to see what treasures come home with you all this weekend.

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

As I mentioned earlier my sweet sister got engaged over the weekend. She stayed at my house during her engagement weekend, and I got to spoil her and her fiance by making them breakfast. Of course I had to serve the whole thing with Pyrex. It just makes everything prettier.

ENJOY!!! Thanks for coming joining us for breakfast.

YES IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!

I hope you can enjoy a meal served in Pyrex this week.

Knitting update

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I spent a long time working on my scarf last night during my Monday night home of rest. It was so relaxing to sit on the couch and knit my little heart away. Its so fun to see my progress. Its finally starting to look like a pot holder, so a few more nights of hard work it might start looking more like a scarf.

I also learned some awesome new techniques for editing photos. I just love how this picture came out, so you might see some new works of art showing up on my little blog soon.

Do you have any apps that you love to use for editing photos?

Joyful Reviews - Flea Market Style

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I was so excited to purchase the latest issue of Flea Market Style. The last issue of the magazine was only so so to me, but this one surprised me in a wonderful way. I thought they showed some wonderful collections, and shared great tips on shopping at flea markets. The biggest con for me on this wonderful magazine is the $9.95 price tag. I love the magazine, but that price is just so high. Anyways moving along, this issue was chalk full of homes furnished with vintage finds. I plan on copying a few things I found in this issue.

This article was just so cute about what to wear/bring to a flea market.

And I was overjoyed to see my beloved Pyrex featured.

Overall I do recommend this issue of Flea Market style for a cozy read on a rainy day. The problem with buying magazines is most of the wonderful ideas that are enclosed in their glossy pages can be found free on blogs and on Pinterest. However I am very old fashioned and I do love to have a book or magazine in my hand, so basically I enjoy both methods.

Have you purchased the latest issue of Flea Market Style? Or is this your first time hearing about the magazine?

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

What a lovely week it has been. I don't have many thrifty finds to show for it because I was busy spending time with my sister who came down this weekend to visit me and  while she was here she got................ENGAGED!!! It was such a special weekend. I am so excited to be a part of her wedding and see her marry her best friend.

Here a the few lovelies that came home with me.

This is by far my most favorite find! My first piece of the Pyrex friendship pattern. This beautiful lid was hiding on the very bottom of a shelf at Salvation Army. I was jumping up and down when I found this beauty. I got this awesome piece for my collection for $1.50!!! This was a happy day!

At goodwill I found this wonderful Rachel Ashwell book about giving presents, which is one of my favorite things to do.

This is the beautiful site you see right when you open the book

It is full of beautiful ideas, and I only paid $3.99 for it.

Another wonderful book on gift giving. I guess the same person decided to not give gifts anymore and donated all of their books. Anyways this one was $2.99, and it has really practical gift wrapping ideas using unusual sources.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

The Joy of Fixing Things - Large Wall Clock

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I love those big clocks that you can read a mile away, and I found one awhile back at Good will that seemed as though it just needed a battery to get working again. I was very wrong because it needed a brand new clock mechanism. Mr Joyful Thrifter and I finally got around to fixing that clock over the weekend, and I love having it hanging in our living room. We even put new hands on it because the old ones were bent and sad.

I think it is a lovely clock. The details are so pretty. I bought the clock for $14.99, and the clock mechanism was $7.49 plus $1.99 for new hands. $24.47 for a beautiful clock is a great deal!

Have you found a treasure recently that needed a bit of fixing before you could use it?

Joyful Creations - Owlways be Thankful

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

We made it halfway through the week! Pooh Bear has some cheerful words to brighten your Wednesday.

(image Via Orkut Scraps)

I made this quick Thank You card this week, and I thought it might inspire you to write a card to someone. I just love receiving handwritten cards, and sending them is just as fun.

I found that wonderful owl sticker in the dollar bin at Joanns. The pack came with 4 sheets of lovely owls making the cutest faces.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Joyful Creations - Framed Window Part 2

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Yesterday I showed you how to make this window framed with fabric. Today I will show you the sweet bunting that I made to add detail to my soon to be head board.

Materials Needed for part 2:

- Fabric
- Card stock to make a template
- Ruler
- Pen
- Sharpie
- Scissors
- Bias Tape
- Sewing machine OR you could hand sew this project

Again my wonderful mom provided the fabric for my bunting. These fabrics can brighten up any sad day!

Next I needed to create a triangle template so I could cut out my fabric.

I did not want a large triangle so I guesstimated what would be a good size for this project.

Next I laid my template on each of the fabrics and traced it onto the fabric using a sharpie

Next: I hand cute out my triangles because I wanted it to have a home made feel. You could also use a rotary cutter and that would work well too.

I laid out my triangles on my frame to make sure I had enough to go across the whole frame.

Next: I sewed around the edges of each triangle to give them some weight. After I sewed each triangle I pressed them.

I wanted a simple bias tape so it would not take away from my lovely fabrics

I took my bias tape and ironed it in half.

Next: I slipped each triangle into the new pressed seam of the bias tape, and pinned it together. REMINDER! leave a tale of bias tape so you can staple it to the back of your frame

Next: I sewed right down the center of the bias tape

Once your bunting is done staple it to the back of your picture frame

LOOK!!! YOU'RE DONE!!!! I will take pictures this evening of this lovely project hanging in its new home.

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter
