Anniversary Get Away

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,
Mr Joyful Thrifter and I escaped to the beautiful San Diego to celebrate our four year wedding anniversary. We love San Diego. It is just far away enough that it feels like we are getting away and just close enough  that we can still do a small trip. We relaxed, played cards, and did some shopping. A perfect get away.
Our first order of business when we arrived in San Diego was to walk the beach in Coranado. We love this little island. The town is small and the houses are beautiful. After enjoying our time in Coronado we went to our hotel where we were greeted with the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. Our view was fantastic too. We visited a local coffee house and book store, and let me tell you they make a mean cup of hot chocolate. The next day was spent driving around seeing the sites. We stumbled across the best coffee house called The Living Room. We literally spent hours there drinking tea and coffee and playing card games. One of my favorite things was ordering room service each morning. That was a special treat.  Can't wait to see what we do next year.

Happy Things on Friday

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,
Happy Friday! I am home. I know that may sound very silly to you, but Mr Joyful Thrifter and I just got home from a wonderful anniversary get away. It was a wonderful trip, but I am glad to be in my beautiful home again. We decided that while we love to go away we also love coming home. I will share some pictures soon of our trip. Maybe tomorrow if I can get my bottom in gear and download all the pictures.

Backyard Beauty~ I just love these planter boxes. The stand if very simple, and what really stands out are the lovely green plants. I actually think this set up would do very nicely inside as well.
Crafty Goodness~ Why didn't I think of this fantastic idea? Answer me that! I have a million and one doilies that could use a proper use other then sitting on tables, and look at this fabulous one! So easy to duplicate too. I must try this very soon and share it with all of you lovelies.
Home~ If you haven't been able to figure it out but I love plants and natural wood. The two together are like peanut butter and jelly. They just look amazing together in all of their natural glory. I am trying to add more of this combo in my home, and it is coming along nicely. But all good collections must be brought together slowly or they will look choppy and thrown together. I want my wood and plant collection to have the same vibe as in this picture
Just Cute~ This print is exactly what it says "happy." I love the gold of course. The white matting against the white frame is very simple, but makes a nice statement.
Silly ~ I think I need this shirt. Love it!

Having Fun With My Hair

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,
I am trying to find more hair styles to put off washing my hair. It takes a ton of work to blow dry my hair and make it how I like it, so the longer I can put it off the better. I love all of the hair ideas on Pinterest for up do's and braids. What I have been doing is washing my hair one day, the next day I will curl it, and then the following day I will use the day old curls to do something up or add something to make those curls work.

These are second day curls and all I did was put a vintage scarf in my hair and then pull some of it out of my eyes. Very simple, but looks so cute and looks like I put a lot of effort into making my hair styled.
I did not tie it under my hair so you could see the polka dots from the back. I think this is such a fun look.
What will you do with your day old curls?

Easy Pillow Case Pillow

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,
I found this adorable black and white polka dot pillow case at a thrift store awhile back, and snatched it up. The material was not like your average pillow case it was actually really soft and pretty. I was very excited to turn it into a regular pillow covering.
What you need for this project:
Pillow Form
Pillow Case
Sewing machine (or you can sew it by hand just as easily)
Needles
Measuring tape (I actually used a yard stick)
Two large buttons
Place the pillow form inside of the pillow case and pin so you can know where to sew.
Next take your yard stick and make a line where you just pinned so you know where to sew.
Sew the line you just marked
After you sew go ahead and cut off the extra fabric
Pin the pillow again so you know where to sew the pillow closed. Make sure you don't sew it closed completely so you can still put your pillow inside.
After you have it all sewed up begin the hard part of stuffing your pillow in your new pillow cover.
KEEP GOING!
I used my sewing machine to stitch up the opening.
For me once my pillow was all sewed up I went to my moms house and she used her handy dandy long upholstery needle to put in this large black button in the center of my pillow.
It is always so nice to put a new pillow on my couch. It cheers it up so much.
Happy Sewing my friends!
