Being Whimsy with Ribbon

Hello fellow Thrifters and Friends,

 My sweet mom gave me this really neat tool for Christmas called "Whimsy sticks"and with these sticks you can create beatiful ribbon flowers. Its lots of and once you get the technique relatively simple to make.

I have a bit of practicing to do to make them as lovely as the ones in the video, but practice will help make that happen.

     Thrifting is such a joy, and I think it's even more joyful having a dear friend who shares in the same fun. My thrifting buddy gave me the most wonderful thrifted Christmas present. She can spot something that looks like my style a mile away, and I think I can do the same for her.

Joyful Decorating

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

  Well I am putting my "new" fabric to use. The first thing I did with it was very simple.

This is my coffee table in my bedroom. I bought it awhile back at a garage sale for $5.00, but I have not really done much with it.

I chose a very cheerful piece of fabric from my new stash (which was hard to do because the piece I really wanted was not big enough) ironed it and put it on my coffee table.

Voila! Now my table looks so cute and ready for a pick nick. I have great plans for this nook to make it look like a vintage fort, but time does not allow so I will settle with this little redo.

Try to remember re-do's don't always mean a drastic construction project, but can be a simple table cloth to freshen up a room.

Lemonade Joy

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

   Something silly to know about me is that I LOVE lemonade! Yep its my favorite drink. If I had it my way I would replace water with lemonade. Now I must put a disclaimer here, and that is I don't like ALL lemonades for instance I don't like "Minute Made - Light" that stuff is no good. I just love the color, taste, and all that creates a glass of lemonade. My sweet mother in law just recently gifted me a bag of beautifully bright yellow lemons, and of course I was going to make a batch of sweet lemonade.

I also found a great juicer at a thrift store this past year, which has made juicing lemons a breeze. My "new" juicer is pictured below. 

When I cut into a lemon and smell the scent of this tart fruit the air just seems fresher and cleaner. I put some down my garbage disposal to freshen up my sink. 

Lemonade is meant for this Pyrex pitcher 

Here is my recipe: 

about 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice to 1 cup of sugar

 everything else is ice cold water

Super simple and very tasty

I was able to make two batches of lemonade, and Mr Joyful Thrifter and I got through half of one already. So refreshing. Winters in California just don't make sense to me, but I will still enjoy them.

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

  FINALLY!!  I have so missed posting about my finds because I have not found anything lately. I went out by myself this morning with cash in hand ready to find some lovely treasures. I went 45 minutes before ever getting out of the car because every garage sale I went to there was nothing interesting at all. Then it happened. I drove up to THE garage sale. I knew it was going to be fun when I saw a sweet older lady running the sale, and I saw a bunch of boxes of fabric. I BURST OUT OF THE CAR! I was so excited. The real test was going to be prices. I listened for a bit to see some of the prices she was giving other customers and they were fantastic.

Here are the wonderful things I found

I saw this cute gingham box sitting on one of her tables

When I opened the box I discovered all of these wonderful sewing directions and patterns

 Each picture has a matching pattern and directions on how to make the items in the picture. Its so wonderfully sweet. The box has patterns for pillows and aprons, and everything 70's and vintage. 

You might be wondering how much I paid for this box of wonderfullness, and the answer is $1.00. I know pretty wonderful.  

I bought a whole box of vintage fabric for $1.00. I am not sure what will come of this wonderful fabric, but I have some great ideas. Posts to follow.

She also had a whole bin of vintage patterns she was selling for $0.10 a piece. I bought 10 patterns, and I can't wait to use them in my craft room.

I was so happy after leaving this sale with all of my cute finds.

After finishing up at a few more garage sales I went to the swap meet to see what treasures could be found there. I saw these lovely Fenton glass dishes. I have done a bit of research and Fenton glass seems to be collectable. I paid $1.00 for the both of these little dishes.

I think they are so pretty

At the same sale I bought these glass ornaments for $0.50.

Just Being Joyful after work

Hello Fellow Thrifters,

    Last night after work and after the dishes were done I used my tea treasures which were Christmas presents from my lovely sister in law. My old tea pot for boiling water got rust in it, so into the trash it went. She was sweet enough to hear me mention that I did not have one, and bout one for me in a perfect shade of yellow.

 She also gave me this wonderful bird tea pot. I just love it so much.

Biglow "Perfect Peach" is one of my favorite teas because it has a soft taste and is Caffeine free.

Joyful Creations

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

  After the hussle and bussle of the holiday season last night I got some quiet time to spend in my little craft room. I think its a room version of my brain. I look around at the sweet details and I feel like its my inspirations come to real life. I just love that about my little room. It welcomes me with open arms and says LETS CREATE!!! You might remember this was the first thing I created when I moved into my craft room

Last night Mr Joyful thrifter and I went to target to pick up a new board game, and in the dollar section I saw that they were preparing for Valentines day. Well that just got me excited about the pink and red holiday and I decided it would be fun to make a Valentines day card.

I started out with two completely contrasting pieces of paper. I love the black and grey on this paper. Plus its textured, which means PERFECT!

After cutting my card to the size I used my circle punch to pop out three circles at the very bottom of the card. You could pop out the circles on the side if you wanted a different look then mine.

I cut my contrasting paper to the same width as the card I was making.

Next I placed some glue near the holes I had just punched

Look at that transformation with just one simple technique

I then punched out little delicate hearts using this lovely rosey paper

I used pop up dots to give my little hearts some dimension. I also added a very soft silk ribbon in a mint green. 

I bought these stickers for a different project, but I did not get to use them. I love having all sorts of things on hand. It makes being creative so much more fun and easy. 

Here is the final product. I just love how simple and easy this card was to make

The Joy of Pyrex

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,
 
    My very talented mom made me this wonderful embroidered Pyrex towel for Christmas. She gave each one of her daughters a Pyrex bowl with a matching towel. Mine is so cute and its pink, which makes it so much fun.

Joyful Tablescapes and More

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

   I did not find one treasure at the thrifty stores this week. That was so sad. However I have been putting my current treasures into new vignettes around the house and I think they look so lovely that I had to share them with you all. Our apartment is finally looking how I want it to. It just took some time and a lot of moving things around.

This is what my kitchen table looks like right now. It's very simple, but I missed my blue type writer so I thought it would be fun to stick it right on the table because I won't miss it there.

I put out my Peter Rabbit tea set just for fun. 

Here is another little side table in my house that came out so cute

I got the nook under my stairs back from our beautiful Christmas tree, so back went my favorite chair and a few new pieces

It is such a peaceful little nook. Its a great place to read
