Joyful Creations - Heart Bunting

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I got to finally spend some time in my craft room over the weekend, and it brought such joy to my heart. I have been wanting to make this heart garland for quite some time, and it was a very relaxing project.

My mom gifted me these wonderful die cut fabric hearts, and they are even more special because my Aunt gave them to her. I love passed down gifts! They are so fun. The ribbon was from a Christmas present to my sister and I asked if I could keep it. I try really hard to use what I have on hand so my projects are inexpensive and fun.

Next I pinned the hearts to my ribbon.

I tried to pin them evenly apart, so it would look nice when it was hung up.

Once they were all pinned it was time to put it on my sewing machine

I sewed right down the middle of the hearts and kept going all the way down.

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE OUT THE PINS! I did and when I picked it up I got pricked all over my hands.

TA DA!! Simple heart bunting!

I displayed it for the pictures on my hutch, but I am planning on putting it in the spare bedroom.

What have you been creating this week?

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow thrifters and Friends,

It was another long week because I was sick again, but I believe I am on the mend, FINALLY!! Here are the lovelies that came home with me this week. This weeks treasure hunt finds started almost the day after I posted last weeks post.

I found this beautiful doiley last Sunday at an Estate sale. I paid $2.00 for it, and it looks so lovely on my new kitchen table.

Mr Joyful Thrifter went to the swap meet today, and was so sweet to pick out some very cute treasures for me. He got the lace doilies for $0.50 and the pink napkin was $0.25.

He spotted this wonderful whale and bought him for me for $0.25. I just think he is so cute.

 Little Paris plate for $0.50

I am glad I stopped quickly at goodwill today because I found this Pyrex and it is not a pattern that I have yet. I paid $3.99 for it, and I thought was a fine price for a piece I do not have.

At the Salvation army I found this sweet edition of Heidi. Because it was in the children's section I found out that they they sell them 4 for $1.00, so I went and picked out three other books.

Here are the other three children's books I found.

My last find of the day was this sweet mug for $1.19. It is a large bowl size mug perfect for soup.

I washed it all up and put some delicious strawberries in it to enjoy.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

Joyful Gifts

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I was a gifted a wonderful treasure today from a fellow vintage collector and decorator. She is a friend of my dear mother in law, and I was blessed to go to her house for fourth of July where I got to see her wonderful collections.  I was so surprised that she found these two beauties and thought to buy them for me! People always surprise me in such lovely ways.

Aren't they so lovely? I was so tickled to receive these three beautiful dishes! I will love them more then just the ones I find at the thrifts because these three were bought from a special friend.

I gifted myself something today. I was at Walmart today and saw these two little treasures and brought them home.

I can't wait to pack my lunch in them. I got them both for $0.97 each. Splendid price for cute stuff.

Hope you all have a wonderful evening!

Treasure Hunt Finds - Special Edition

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Earlier this week I found this wonderful kitchen table and two chairs at Goodwill. I fell in love with the set, but it was $80.00 and I was not sure if I wanted to spend that much. Mr Joyful Thrifter surprised me on Thursday night and said I could go and buy it! I was so excited. I have been wanting a round kitchen table for awhile now, and I just loved that one so much. So without further ado welcome the new addition to my house.

It has a leaf as well so it can extend and get bigger for company.

Mr Joyful Thrifter put the center piece together, and I think he did a fantastic job.

The only "problem" with my new table is that it only came with two chairs, but to me that is not a problem because now I get to hunt for two more chairs. We sold my old kitchen table on Craigslist for $20.00 so my new table only really cost me $60.00. The lady who bought my old table was so excited, and I was so pleased that it went to a good home.

Joyful Snapshots - Side Table

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

We are finally setting up our spare bedroom instead of using it as storage. It's beginning to come together very nicely. I loved the side table display, and I had to share it with you all.

I love my red phone, and was excited that I have a phone for it again.

It was another lovely day to my weekend. I am looking forward to starting a new week, but sad at the same time that the weekend is ending.

Have a lovely rest of your Sunday, and enjoy starting a new week.

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

What a perfect Saturday. My lovely day was filled with estate sales, thrift stores, and tea with a friend. It was truly the most relaxing enjoyable day. I am a very blessed individual.  Mr Joyful Thrifter and I had the hanckering to go to an estate sale today, and we saw one advertised in west Los Angeles. We thought "why not it sounds like fun", and based off of the pictures there might be some good items. We got there about an hour after the sale started. I wanted to check the kitchen items first because I saw some Pyrex in the kitchen photos that I was interested in. To my horror there was a yellow Pyrex bowl that was priced at $18.00, and at the estate sale it stayed. We only stayed about 15 minutes because the place was packed, and the prices were outragous. Off to the next sale we went. This sale was a polar opposite because unlike the previous one everything was relitavely neat and clean where as this one was basically a dump. The whole house looked like it was teaming with small little creatures. GROSS! We left that one pretty quickly as well. We decided it would be safer to hit some thrift stores and see what treasures could be found that way.

Here are some of the lovelies that came home with me

I saw this scarf hanging on a lonely rack and I loved the pattern. It was not until I got home that I realized it was a Vera. I was very pleasantly surprised by that, and I only paid $1.95 for it too.

I also found this wonderful window mirror at the same store. It is going to look great above the bed in the spare bedroom. I found it for $9.95, and I can't wait to hang it up.

When I spied this beautiful pin at the check out stand it called to me to take it home. I paid $1.50, and I think it was well worth it. It is a pin, and can also double as a necklace. It is truly the sweetest little pin.

The next little finds were purchased awhile back, but I forgot to post about them.

This little owl is just so sweet and little. I paid $1.99 for him and he loves living at my home.

This was the find of the year so far! I went the thrift store on a work errand actually to see if I could find a used desk for a co-worker. The desk I went there to see was sold, and as I was walking out of the store I spotted this amazing piece on the carts with new items. I gasped when I saw it across the room. I snatched it so quickly. I could not believe my eyes. The yellow dots was here in real life. I was really scared to see how much it was going to be. I was SHOCKED to see a $1.99 price tag on it, and into the check out line I went. I took a shorter lunch to accommodate my quick purchase. I knew if I left it there I would regret it forever. I am so excited to finally have a dots in my Pyrex collection.

Here is a quick snap shot from my tea party this afternoon

I tried a new tea called pear mango, and it was such a lovely light tea. It was so soft and yummy to drink.

Their scones are the most delightful things. So yummy.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

Joyful Inspiration - Cardigans

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I believe one of my fashion statements is a cardigan. My long standing joke is "you can fix anything with a cardigan." Any time something just does not seem complete on my outfit I put a cardigan on and I instantly feel ready to leave the house. Its a wonderful staple, and the options are endless for colors lengths and styles. I was admiring these cardigans this lovely Friday evening.

Such a joy to look at all of the pretties in the internet world, and hoping to find them in the thrift store world someday. Hope you all have a lovely Saturday, and find lots of wonderful treasures. I am so excited for my treasure hunt post as I have some wonderful treasures to share with you all this week.

The Joy of Pyrex - Calendar Art

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

My sweet sister in law gifted me this wonderful Pyrex calendar for Christmas, and I knew it needed to be displayed in an extra special manner

(image via erinink)

I bought this large poster sized picture frame at a garage sale for $1.00, and then I put to use my wonderful polka wrapping paper that I picked up at good will for $0.99.

I trimmed the wrapping paper so it was the same size as the picture frame

I used this glue runner to attach the wrapping paper to the card board behind the picture frame.

Next I laid out the calendar, attempting to make straight rows. This served to be trickier then expected

I added a bit of ribbon for a special touch

TA DA!! Sorry the final picture came out poor, but the glair would not go away.

I think it came out really sweet, and this wall in my kitchen needed a picture so it worked out fantastically.

Thank you to my sweet sister in law for giving me the wonderful calendar to enjoy!

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter
