What's in the Joyful Thrifters Purse?

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I just love those posts  "whats inside your purse?"It is so fun to see what other ladies carry in their purse and what is important to them. After a long time I have finally decided to do one for my blog readers.

Here is the purse in question. This is my Christmas present to myself , a beautiful coach leather purse. I was blessed this year by a Christmas bonus from work, and I picked out this lovely purse.

Welcome to my little bag, and the things I carry around every day

1. My Robot journal to jot down to do lists, present ideas, or blog post ideas.
2. My cute monster change purse that came with a gift card I bought from Anthropologie. I love opening his little mouth to find change or hair clips.
3. Lip gloss and chap stick. I usually have a clear one for just putting on quickly or the sparkly red one from Avon for when I have more time to put on some color.
4. My santa pez that my sweet husband gave me for Christmas.
5. My wallet with two of my favorite colors on it. I found this wallet at goodwill, and it has travelled may miles.
6. A beautiful cosmetic bag made by my mother. I love this little bag.
7. My nook! I love my little nook. Its so great to have all my books at the tips of my fingers.
8. Ipod and ear phones
9. Can't go anywhere without my sun glasses
10. Compact
11. Carmex for those dry lip sort of days
12. Nail clippers for my clutsty break your nail type of day
13. Tide pen for my whoopsies
14. Pen and highlighter
15. Keys to my car and Mr Joyful Thrifters

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Happy Christmas Eve!!! I am happy to report the wrapping is done, and I can finally give my blog some attention again. I was so busy with holiday happenings this week and last that I feel like my little blog suffered as a result. I am glad I will be able to get back to normal happenings soon.

Today was great fun because almost my whole family met up at the swap meet to do a walk through before visiting my grandma. It was so fun because the swap meet was double the size it normally was due to the Christmas holiday. I was lucky to find some lovely treasures too!

My first find were these lovely wooden vintage hangers. I think they will look fantastic with doilies or old photographs hanging from them. I paid $1.00 each for them.

The next booth I stopped at was so funny because it was an old woman's grandson selling her tons of "junk" as he called it. He said she was a hoarder and it was time to get rid of some stuff.  I bought the next two items from him. I paid $0.50 for this old book of Psalms. Its so small and cute.

Vintage ornament hooks for $0.50. These will come out as a cute decoration for next year. I just could not pass up this cute box.

Very cute yellow frame for $2.00. My sister really wanted this frame, but I guess the phrase "finders keepers" came to life when I picked it up before her.

Next up is a  wonderful old dictionary. This little dictionary is so small and cute. I paid $2.00 for it.

This was a goodwill find from earlier this week. I got the lamp for $9.99 and the shade for $2.99. I was so excited to find another lamp because our apartment could use more light.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Tis the season! I am super busy preparing presents and getting ready for Christmas. Its lots of fun, but my thrifting has almost been non existent.  Today I started having withdrawals, so my sweet husband took me to the swap meet to see if we could find some treasures.

I stopped at this booth and the man said everything he had he was selling for $1.00. Of course I started looking more closely once I realized he had such great prices. I brought home the following pictures.

This one is so unique. I love how whoever made it framed the picture under a doiley. So sweet

Here it is closer up

Here is the other picture I found

He had some old quilts and I asked if he was selling those for a $1.00 too, and he said he was not selling those at all. To bad. That is garage sale / swap meet rule #1 ALWAYS ASK! you might be surprised at what you will find.

This man was calling out that he had estate sale jewelry nothing over $4.00. I thought it would be fun to dig around his bins for awhile. Its just fun to see what ugly jewelry that is around. I found these two pieces for $1.00. I am going to turn the owl earring into a necklace.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

The Joy of Pyrex

Hello Fellow Friends

I got a fun idea in my head to make festive water. Yes I did say festive water. The first colors that come to mind when you think of something festive is red and green. This is what I came up with to make my water more festive.

Choose some lovely green limes and cut them up

Drop those limes in a Pyrex pitcher full of cold water

Then to add a lovely red color add frozen cranberries

Ta Da! Festive Christmas water.

What are some fun things you do to make every day things festive?

Progressively Joyful #4

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

My lovely little home should be featured on todays post, but I was to busy hosting my part of the tea that I forgot to take pictures of my table. That being said I am going to move onto the final home of our lovely tour.

The last home we visited is the cherry on top. My mom's house is always decorated so lavishly for Christmas. She goes above and beyond to make her home look extraordinary. She has vintage, modern, and whimsical decorations all through out her home. Just about every room has a Christmas tree in it, and it is just so cute and festive. You can't help but smile and let your eyes wander around her home as you take in all of the festive cheer. Plus my mom is the most welcoming host you will ever meet, and being in her home is always like being home.

Welcome Home

Her tree is amazing! This year my niece and nephew put a lot of the decorations on the tree. It was so cute.

Her Mantle is so festive! She has a stocking for every one of her children, and then a stocking for their husband or wife, and then a stocking for the grandchildren. As our families grow the stockings will keep growing! Its so fun.

Enjoy the many pictures I took of the lovely details that surround her home. I could not stop taking pictures because it was so easy and so much fun in my mama's home

Finally here are those beloved Christmas trees

Tea time or should I say sparkling cider time. She knows me so well, and knows that I love sparkling cider.

Oh boy were these cookies amazing!

I sure hope you all have enjoyed joining us for our Christmas tea

Progressivley Joyful #3

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Onto House #3! My sister in laws home is so lovely. When you walk in the door you can immediately see her mix of shabby sheek and vintage modern combined. Its just lovely. We actually have very similar taste, and it gets pretty dicey when we go shopping together because we always set our eyes on the same treasures. Its great fun. I always enjoy seeing how she displays a similar item that I have in my house.

Enjoy seeing her adorable home with handpicked treasures just in her style

Of course she is my sister because SHE COLLECTS PYREX TOO!! My mom and I got her hooked, and her collection is displayed so cute.

She made this adorable Christmas lights wreath out of felt. Very cleaver idea and it came out so cute.

I just could not resist photographing this little guy.

Another wonderful masterpiece by the host. She is very creative and talented. I am so proud of each one of my sisters wonderful style. Each one brings such a lovely welcoming environment to their homes.

So cute! The details in her decorating are what make her style.

I love that advent calandar!

And finally the festive trees displayed again in love. Its so fun to see how each person incorporated these handmade treasures into the holiday decor.

11 Days till Christmas, and I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season.

Progessivley Joyful #2

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Onto house #2 of the Progressive Christmas tea. My sweet Aunt and Uncle just moved to our town, and I am so glad they are so close. Now she gets to join in all of our girl fun. She has quite the crafty hand as well. It runs in the family. She loves to quilt and sew, and she is an amazing painter. She graciously gave me two lovely paintings, and when I get them proper frames I plan on doing a post on her lovely artistry.

Here is her home decorated so lovely for Christmas

I just loved her cheerful  Christmas table. The napkins are my favorite. They look so cute with the flowers as napkin holders. I also learned what a charger was from her. I have never heard of those before, and then she told me they go under neath your dinner plate. I just always thought those were for layering. I always learn wonderful things. ( I sure hope I am not the only one who did not know what those were)

This little truck was so cute placed under her Christmas tree

She also has under her tree these adorable sewing inspired Christmas pals waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.

She has such a sweet little tree with cheerful colored lights.

This set of glass Christmas trees were one of my favorite decorations at her lovely home. They looked so sweet sitting on her coffee table.

Like I mentioned earlier she is very gifted in creating wonderful crafts because she made this beautifully detailed stocking.

I look forward to showing you house #3 tomorrow. Have a lovely day!

Progressively Joyful #1

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Yesterday was a festive day filled with family and fun. The girls in my family decided to host a progressive Christmas tea, so we could see how each house was decorated for Christmas. We went to each home, and each lady prepared a lovely tea sandwich and a favorite tea. It was a splendid time of togetherness and holiday cheer. This week I am doing a special post for each home that was visited. I hope you enjoy a progressively joyful week here on Joyful Treasure Hunting.

The first home was my sisters, and her table was set so lovely.

Her center piece was so cute, and so easy to reduplicate through out the year with different colored beads for different seasons.

Her tree was decorated with love by her two little ones

Her "mantle" was so festive! The trees in the corner will be a theme through out the posts because her husband made those lovely trees last year for christmas presents. I took pictures of them in each home displayed in love.

These were her wonderfully yummy sandwiches that she served. I think these sandwiches were my favorite from the day.

Here is the recipe if  you are interested in making these yummy sandwiches

Spinach Dip Sandwiches

1 pkg frozen chopped spinach, drained and squeezed dry
1 pkg  vegetable soup mix
1 cup chopped almonds
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise

Mix the sour cream and mayonnaise together in a bowl. Pour in the soup mix, almonds, and spinach. Mix thoroughly and refrigerate for at least four hours. Spread over bread slices, AND ENJOY!

She also served these yummy muffins, but I don't have the recipe to share with you all.

What special events do you do with your family?

The Joyful Thrifter
