Gifted Joy - Grandmas file cabinet

Hello Fellow thrifters and Friends,

My Grandma was recently moved to a rehab facility, so she could not keep all of treasures. Life changes so much when you reach a certain age. I was pleased to receive this wonderful vintage file cabinet. I am not sure what she held in this beauty, but I was excited to have it. I love the size and shape of it. I don't think it was a special treasure to her, but I love it.

Look at how excited that cartoon is to have a place to store her files! YEAH!

Have you been given a special treasure from a loved one?

Finding Joy in the Little Things - Mushroom Needles

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

My sweet mom gave me these adorable needles, and I had to share them with you.

I don't know what it is about these needles, but they put a smile on my face right when I look at them. I am not sure what exactly to do with them, but I thought it might like cute if I figure out how to them them into a pin for my shirt. Do you have any ideas to use these cute Pins for?

Treasure Hunt Finds

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

Today was such a perfect day. I got to go thrift shopping with my mom! That is a rare treat, and we made the most of it.  We went to her an city near her house that I don't get to very often to get some new treasures. We went to two goodwills, a salvation army, and the assistance league thrift store. It was great fun, and I came away with some lovely treasures.

This beautiful handmade tea towell. It was made with perfect precision, and made me sad that whoever made it gave it away. Anyways I only paid $0.50 for it, and I thought that was an absolute steal!

A little pot holder. I mainly bought this little guy because I want to learn how to make them someday, and I wanted the inspiration handy. I paid $0.25 for it, and I will put it to proper use.

A theme arose when I found this pink doily at the same store that the above were purchased. I loved the flowers and details on this doily. I paid $0.75 for this sweet gem.

I have a project in mind for these hoops, and I got them each for $1.57. I can't wait to post about what i plan on doing with them.

Finally, this is my favorite find of the day. The Pyrex cookie jar. I already have one that was gifted to me by my mom, but I could not pass up finding this one at Salvation army for $4.57. I think this one will live in my craft room filled with ribbon or thread.

Hope you all had a wonderfully thrifty week!

Joyful Tablescapes - Valentines Day Themed

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

As I have said this whole week Valentines day has been so much fun for me this year. I have never decorated my table or house for this holiday, but this year I got into the spirit. Yesterday you saw my table runner that I made, and today you can see it with my other treasures.

Since I don't have a mantel at my apartment I treat my kitchen table as my mantel. I put things on it that normally would not go on a kitchen table, but its fun to improvise.

What would be a Valentines table without our wedding picture present? Oh and red Pyrex bowls too.

Some of my recent treasure hunt finds in action. I put black paper behind the Valentine plaque to make it stand out better.

I found these cute plastic heart boxes at the dollar store. I had to fill my red Pyrex bowl with them.

Happy Pre-Valentines Day!

Joyful Creations - Easy Heart Table Runner

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I don't know what it is about Valentines Day this year, but I am excited. I just love being married to Mr Joyful Thrifter, so I love that this holiday celebrates being in love. I know I can show him how much I love him all year, and I do, but it sure if fun to get into a holiday that celebrates pink, white, and red. Three lovely colors!

I decided to actually put those heart doilies to good use this year, and turn them into a table runner.

I laid out my hearts on my table to get the correct measurements of how many hearts would actually fit on my little table. After I knew the count I laid them on the floor to decide which direction the hearts would go.

I used the tips and ends of the hearts as my guide. I wanted the heart to still look like a heart after I sewed it.

I carefully  pinned the hearts together.

After they were pined I sewed a straight line right down the middle of the hearts. Be very careful not to rip your lacy hearts.

TA DA!! A very simple table runner. Plus its so easy to make that  you can toss it and recerate it next year. I plan on leaving notes on the hearts throughout the month for Mr Joyful Thrifter.

I really like the final product!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the rest of my Valentines tablescape! Its very festive, and very sparkly. I would like to take a moment to say that I love Mr Joyful Thrifter for putting up with all of my crazy decorations. He is a great guy!

Do you enjoy decorating for this lovey dovey holiday?

Finding Joy in the little things - Button Edition

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I finally got some time over the weekend to clean my craft room and organize it a bit. As we are all aware storage is tricky in any craft room as us crafters save all sorts of odds and ends thinking they will be the perfect addition to a craft project down the road. That being said we have a lot of weird stuff that needs storing.

I have accumulated quite the button collection over the years, but I have not had a good way to store them. More importantly a good way to store them where I can still search through them without having to dump them out all over my work space. I found this adorable tin on the christmas clearance table at Joanns for $2.30 and knew it would be perfect for BUTTONS!

I love how it looks vintage, but its brand new. Plus a vintage one might have rust or other particles hanging around inside of it. We all know what age can do to a tin.

Take a peak at my collection. I love looking at the different shapes and colors.

I picked out some of my favorite buttons to feature. Let me rephrase that, my favorite buttons at that moment.

This pale blue button has always been a favorite button of mine, and it is being saved for just the right project.

Do you have a button collection? And if so how do your store yours? By color? Shape?

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter

Joyful Creations Combined with the Joy of Pyrex

Hello Fellow thrifters and Friends,

Another wonderful Sunday afternoon in my craft room. I used one of my favorite inspirations today, PYREX!

The first thing I did was choose a beautiful yellow polka dot fabric. My mom gave me this fabric for Christmas

I found a picture on the internet that I printed out and put on my light box.

Once you have your design traced the real fun can begin

I chose the crazy daisy pattern as my inspiration on this project.

I free handed the daisy flowers, which scared me a little because I am not good at drawing. However I thought they came out pretty cute.

I love how no project is perfect because when I started using my white thread it got all knotted up and I could not get it out. I had to pull out that whole row of stitches and restart. Such is the life of a crafter.

I found a lovely font to trace onto my project.

Trace your wording onto your project.

YAY! We are getting almost done

I found this great oval hoop at the craft store. I did not even know they came in an oval shape. I was pretty excited for a different style of hoop.

Next I glued down the excess fabric around the frame

ITS DONE!!!!

Here is the final project with its matching friends

What have you been working on lately?

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter
