Finding Joy in the little things - Button Edition

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I finally got some time over the weekend to clean my craft room and organize it a bit. As we are all aware storage is tricky in any craft room as us crafters save all sorts of odds and ends thinking they will be the perfect addition to a craft project down the road. That being said we have a lot of weird stuff that needs storing.

I have accumulated quite the button collection over the years, but I have not had a good way to store them. More importantly a good way to store them where I can still search through them without having to dump them out all over my work space. I found this adorable tin on the christmas clearance table at Joanns for $2.30 and knew it would be perfect for BUTTONS!

I love how it looks vintage, but its brand new. Plus a vintage one might have rust or other particles hanging around inside of it. We all know what age can do to a tin.

Take a peak at my collection. I love looking at the different shapes and colors.

I picked out some of my favorite buttons to feature. Let me rephrase that, my favorite buttons at that moment.

This pale blue button has always been a favorite button of mine, and it is being saved for just the right project.

Do you have a button collection? And if so how do your store yours? By color? Shape?

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter

  1. I have a bag of buttons that I picked up from the Goodwill a few months back. It reminds me of searching through my grandmas button box when I was a kid, being so amazed at all the wonderful buttons she had in there! I have been searching all over for another bag of buttons that is cheap, but they are always so expensive! I really need to search!

  2. I have a button collection that is a combination of two of my Great-Grandmothers collections. I took a few nights to do some marathon t.v. watching and sorted mine out by color into separate glass jars.

  4. I love that button tin for your buttons. I have lots and right now they are displayed in jars. If I ever get crafty then I think I will have to sort them a little better into something else.

  5. My button collection resides in a couple of old colanders. They too, like yours are perfect to rummage through to find the perfect button.
I also keep a collection of my very favourite old buttons in a Fowlers jar. x

  8. Buttons are my weakness & one thing I have a hard time letting go of. Mine are organized by material ... glass, fabric, wood, etc & then by color. I buy old jars (coffee, honey & such) to store them in. I started buying them to replace the buttons on all of my cardigans & found that it was a great way to clear my mind, sorting buttons ... it reminds me of hours spent sorting through my Grammaw's button tin when I was a wee one.

  9. I heart that tin! Mine are in jars by color, plus a jar of metal ones, a jar of novelty ones, a jar of favorite ones, and even a jar of ugly ones. Sometimes when I'm lucky enough to find a jar at the thrift I leave them together that way. OKay, maybe organized is not the word for my buttons. :oD

  11. I love buttons, loved going through Mums button jar but as I don't sew I don't collect them (yet). I think that blue one would be my favourite too, it's the first one I saw in your pic.
