The Joy of Pyrex - Heirloom Pyrex

Hello Fellow Thrifters and Friends,

I have a co-worker who I call my "work mom", and that statement is so true. She looks out for me at work, and thinks of me outside of work. She is a very special person to me, and I am thankful that she is my co-worker but above all she is my friend. Well this dear co-worker surprised me with the loveliest gift for my birthday a few weeks back.

When she gave me a gift bag that was really heavy I was very curious to see what was inside this bag. When I pulled the tissue out to reveal beautiful Pyrex I was so overwhelmed. She remembered! Of course she remembered because she is kind, sweet, and listens to my interests.  Oh my, a pile of sweet little fridgies!

After opening these beauties I gave her a HUGE hug. I then proceeded to ask where she found this perfect set. (in my mind I was thinking how cute that she found them on Ebay for me) She proceeded to tell me that she was given this set on her wedding day 40 years ago. Instant tears flew to my eyes. My sweet co-worker celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary this month, and she was kind enough to share this wonderful treasure with me. She told me that she has baked in them throughout her 40 years of marriage, and it was time to pass it along to a young wife who would love and use them as much as she did.

I will treasure these dishes above all of the other Pyrex dishes I have because I have a beautiful story behind them. I can't wait to pass these on to my daughter some day. I do hope she has the same love of vintage as I do. Other wise I will find a "work daughter" and pass them onto her.

I love sharing this story.

Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter

  6. The story just warmed my heart. Wonderful story. Do you scrapbook? If you so, you just have to scrap a layout about this with a picture of this wonderful woman. If you don't scrapbook, I hope you pass this story on to whoever you pass that pyrex on to some day. The story is as precious as the pyrex.

  14. That is so amazing and sweet! (And the set is gorgeous!)

A family friend gave me some vintage Pyrex last year as an engagement gift. It was Pyrex she had received as a wedding gift over thirty years ago. Like you, I treasure that Pyrex!
